Bill Evans Media is a boutique agency with a unique approach to project development, undertaking artistic endeavors as a trifecta of science, art, and enterprise. Our blueprints require the development of innovative technology specifically for each endeavour; and in a post-filesharing economy for content monetisation, a creative business strategy and culturally-relevant marketing plan. Musically, we’re fortunate to work with some of the world’s most renowned artists. Together, we create extraordinary media with consistently surpass expectations.

Our research is supervised by Bill Evans, Ph.D., whose award-winning research draws from computer science, media technology, engineering, and psychology.  He also has been training ferrets to sort tiny screws; he’s made little progress, but the critters are adorable.

We’re always up for chat, but are not currently accepting new clients.

Bill’s Ph.D. thesis was a new type of music production tool entitled a Virtual Audio Workstation (VAD). Building on contemporary Digital Audio Workstations, Belexes incorporates next-generation technologies such as military-grade eye-tracking and head-tracking perspective control. It also incorporates the world’s Volumetric Haptic Display (VHD), developed with a grant received by Evans from Manchester Metropolitan University. The VHD projects a 3D haptic forcefield into space which supports unencumbered palpation. Belexes provides the launchpad for Evans’ ground-breaking new audio technologies.

Full academic credits are available here.

In 2008, Evans presented his unique fusion of mainstream rock/pop with sophisticated progressive rock and jazz-fusion that was to become Flying Colors. His strategy was to combine a band of top virtuoso artists with a pop singer/songwriter. To initially helm the project, he recruited a producer renown for working in both genres. The final line-up was Steve Morse, Dave LaRue, Mike Portnoy, Neal Morse, and singer/songwriter Casey McPherson. Fresh from Disney’s Hollywood Records, Casey was recommended by Portnoy, who was experienced with numerous collaborations. Producer Peter Collins took the helm, and Evans further recruited prog/pop/rock legends Kerry Livgren and Brian Wilson also agreed to join the fray. Due to scheduling issues, 2012’s Flying Colors was created by the core band, along with Collins. Additional studio and two live 4K/Blu-ray/DVDs followed, with 2013’s Live Europe debuting at #1 in France. The band is currently scheduled to begin work on a third studio album in December, 2016.

Flying Colors’ Second Flight: Live at the Z7 was the first effort with technology from Bill Evans Media. In collaboration with mix engineer Rich Mouser, the release introduced several first-ever features for concert videos. During playback, viewers could move within the venue between the best listening spots, with surround audio mixes that adapted to their real-life locations from the night’s performance. A 3D mix in high-definition audio went beyond surround-sound for headphone listeners. The release also marked the debut of Harmonic Phrase Analysis & Restoration, which dazzled music critics and audiences the world over.

I’d say that, in all my years of listening to live concert recording, none has ever come close to the clarity and richness of sound that Flying Colors – Second Flight has achieved. – Bert Saraco, Phantom Tollbooth

It is, in my opinion, one of the best live albums…ever! The sound is incredible, with several new, unique and innovative treatments. – Gary Marshall, Rocktopia

One thing I must mention about the audio & no matter which version you listen to they all sound amazing. I will go as far as this and say that I have never heard a live recording sound so good; Bill (Evans) spent months developing the new audio technology, “Harmonic Phrase Analysis” at Manchester Met University in Crewe before Rich Mouser started his wizardry on the final mixes. – John Deaux, All About the Rock

…the very latest cutting edge technology – “Harmonic Phrase Analysis” apparently, to recreate the live “feel” from every point in the venue, including front row and behind the mixing desk and I can concur – the sound quality is awesome, more like this please !!!” – Steve Gould, Midlands Metal Heads

…frankly if I hadn’t experienced the band live myself then I’d find it hard to believe that this was a live recording as the sound quality is so impressive. – Anthony May, Planet Mosh
